San Antonio Brahmas Vs Houston Roughnecks: Unlocking the UFL

Unless your mother is a UFL fan, you might have missed this game. Either that or you’ll be in the dog house so long, you might be there for the Week 8 game. 3 PM on Mother’s Day is a unique scheduling choice, but the Roughnecks and the Brahmas played their hearts out anyway. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty, shall we? 

Half 1

Both teams must have had some seriously home-sick mama’s boys because the game’s first quarter was abysmal. As in 0-0, with the red zone equaling the fumble zone for San Antonio. 

The second quarter wasn’t much to write home to mom about either. We had two not-so-noteworthy field goal kicks, leaving the game tied at 3-3. Hey, at least it wasn’t 0!

Half 2

In the third half, some players must have called home during halftime because play quality had improved (barely). 

Fumbling was the four-letter word of the game, with San Antonio doing it twice more in the second half. At least with fumble #3, the Houston Roughnecks did something with it (barely), making a field goal and taking the lead 6-3. 

J.J. Molson is the unofficial MVP of the game, but since the game was so overwhelming overall, he doesn’t even get his own headline. The Houston Roughneck kicker made a 62-yard successful field goal. 

Molson made another field goal after the Brahmas finished their final fumble in the fourth. Things were looking good with Houston, with the score sitting pretty at 12-3. 

But then San Antonio got the bright idea that Mr. Fumble Fingers needed to be replaced in the fourth quarter and replaced he who shall not be named in Texas, with Kevin Hogan. 

Hogan decided the game could use a TD since it had been only kicks for some time. With just three minutes left in the game, John Levett brought in a rushing TD. The three-point attempt was successful, too. 

We’re at 12-12, and it’s in the last few minutes of the game. What will happen?

The Houston Roughnecks fumbled the bag, i.e.,  the ball, and San Antonio utilized that. Their kicker, Ryan Santoso, made a 51-yard field goal in the final moments of the game. And the Roughnecks felt the familiar sting of loss, having turned the game over in the last few minutes of the game. 

The Brahmas did indeed go to the Bahamas with their mamas with a 15-12 win. Which is a terrible score for a horrible game, but a win is a win. The Rougnecks will go into Week 8 no smoother.

How Right the Author Was (or Wasn’t) About Week 7

Who was right about the Renegades taking their first win of the season? Me! Go Arlington!!

The Battlehawks did not take the win. I stand corrected on that front. I was also wrong about the DC Defender winning.

However, I was right about the Houston Roughneck’s loss this week. 

That leaves me at 50/50 for my Week 7 predictions. It wasn’t my strongest week; I’ll give y’all that. But Week 8 will be different.

The Michigan Panthers are kicking butt and taking names (probably because of the two Nacua brothers being there). The Memphis Showboats have been showboating to loss city lately. The Nacua’s are going to take this win on home turf next Saturday.

The Houston Roughnecks will get roughed up worse than a school bully with no lunch just before noon by the Birmingham Stallions on Saturday night. Hopefully some fans will fly out to Birmingham to pick up their team’s carcasses after. 

The Battlehawks got served by the Stallions this week, giving them a nice big slice of humble pie. But they’re still just a little too big for their britches, sitting in the top slot of the XFL Conference Division. The DC Defenders will avenge their mothers and steal this win on May 19th. 

As much as I would love to see the San Antonio Brahmas also get a slice of St. Louis’s pie, even with Mr. Fumble Fingers, they can’t lose against the Arlington Renegades, who finally did the winning thing in Week 7 for the first time. The Brahmas will be back in the Bahamas.
