Chiefs Named Best Fit For Superstar WR Mike Evans
Lon Horwedel-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs are in need of help at wide receiver, and they could find that assistance in the form of Mike Evans in free agency.

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report names the Chiefs as the best fit for Evans in the coming weeks, and while that may have seemed somewhat unrealistic a week ago, the recent salary cap spike just increased Kansas City’s chances rather significantly.

The Chiefs now have close to $30 million in cap room going into the offseason, which should certainly allow them to sign Evans if they so please.

Now, it should be noted that Kansas City also has a couple of its own free agents to worry about in defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed. Perhaps the Chiefs will ultimately choose to spend most of their money on retaining those two defensive studs, but there is no question that Kansas City needs to add some pieces at wide out.

Right now, the Chiefs have Rashee Rice and not a whole lot else at the position. Evans would step in and immediately become Kansas City’s No. 1 guy, and the idea of Evans catching passes from Patrick Mahomes should send chills up and down the spines of every other team in the NFL.

The Chiefs certainly seem like a great option for Evans, who is now in his 30s and would surely like to add another Super Bowl championship to his resume.

Evans is showing no signs of slowing down, either.

The Texas A&M product is coming off of a 2023 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in which he hauled in 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and a league-leading 13 touchdowns en route to his fifth Pro Bowl appearance.

Evans, who was selected by the Buccaneers with the seventh overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, has posted over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 10 seasons, marking a league record.

His best year came back in 2018, when he caught 86 passes for 1,524 yards and eight scores.

There will be a lot of teams interested in Mike Evans this offseason, but it’s hard to imagine any squad providing him with the type of opportunity the Chiefs can offer him.
