'I found huge inspiration from…,' Iga Swiatek shares her experience meeting Olympian Lindsey Vonn
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Iga Swiatek has been an inspiration to young tennis players. At 22, she has won four Grand Slam titles and is WTA No.1. However, she has had her ups and downs and recently revealed who she gets advice and inspiration from.

The Polish star has won two titles this season but began the year pretty badly after exiting the Australian Open in the opening rounds. She came back stronger in Qatar, beating Elena Rybakina to lift the trophy. At Indian Wells, she won her first Masters 1000 of the season. But she couldn’t defend her Stuttgart title, despite winning two consecutive times.

Meanwhile, in Madrid, she seems to have gotten back her strides. She beat Romanian Sorana Cirstea to reach the Round of 16 of the Mutua Madrid Open. When asked about her win, she also revealed meeting ski racer star Lindsey Vonn in Madrid. She added that the Olympic gold medalist is somebody she loves to talk to and seek advice.

I also read her biography, and I found huge inspiration from that. She’s a person to talk to if I need advice or I just want to talk to somebody who is cool. Her power even with the way she talks, you know, and her confidence, so for sure this is something that I might learn from her. Iga Swiatek about Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn won four World Cup overall championships. She won three Olympic medals, including a gold in Vancouver 2010. Despite her retirement in 2019, she has continued to be a reverend athlete among the legends of sports, especially women.

Iga Swiatek to face Spanish ace Sara Sorribes Tormo in the round of 16 in Madrid

Iga Swiatek will face Spanish Sara Sorribes Tormo in the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open. The Polish star defeated Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-1, 6-1 to ensure she stays in the top-tier clay tournament. The victory also improved her season’s record to 26 wins in 30 matches.

In addition, beating World No.30 Cristea meant she has yet to lose against any player under the Top 30 at a Masters 1000 clay tournament since 2020. Last year, she finished as runners-up and will be hoping to win the title despite still many matches to go.

Swiatek so far has only 10 losses on clay since 2020. She has won a total of 67 matches, which has brought her win rate to over 80% making her sit among legends such as Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.
