The buzz surrounding where LeBron James will land is a complete waste of time, energy, and breathe. Who cares? What difference does it make if LeBron goes to the New York Knicks or the New Jersey Nets? It wouldn’t make a difference. The only thing LeBron would do for the Nets or the Knicks is increase television ratings, sell tickets, and jerseys. That wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for New York and New Jersey, who are in the same position with regards to their courting of LeBron James: they need to become relevant again. David Stern and the NBA would love to see LeBron James land in New York. Two of the worst teams in the NBA reside in the biggest market in the United States and LeBron’s presence would certainly change that. Who cares if he goes to the Knicks or Nets? Fans in New York who have been waiting to jump back on the bandwagon obviously will be thrilled to have him, but that’s about it. He can go to the New York Area and hang out with Spike Lee, Jay-Z, and schmooze with other celebrities, which is what LeBron seems interested in. How would LeBron fit with a younger team, like the Nets or Knicks? He wouldn’t. It’s difficult to build for the future if you are going to cater to his every wish, as the Cleveland Cavaliers have tried to. Would LeBron’s new team and new contract give him veto power over coaching and player personnel decisions? Would the Knicks and Nets be coerced into trading away younger potential talent for proven veterans? That approach really didn’t pan out for him in Cleveland. They brought in the supporting cast of Shaquille O’Neal, Antawn Jamison, and Mo Williams only to end up with an early exit from the playoffs. LeBron is facing the dilemma of staying in Cleveland to finish what he started and win a title, or leave and start all over. The Knicks and Nets are not in a position to make a deep playoff run, so his move there would have little impact on the overall NBA picture. If LeBron goes to the New York Area, it won't be to fulfill the dream of winning an NBA Championship anytime soon.
